The currently available tracks which you can do for free are:
VMware Certified Associate – Datacenter Virtualization (VCA-DCV) – Exam blueprint
VMware Certified Associate – Cloud (VCA-Cloud) – Exam blueprint
VMware Certified Associate – Workforce Mobility (VCA-WM) – Exam blueprint
Free online e-learning modules are available that take about 4-5 hours to complete and that are sufficient to pass the exam. The registration process is a bit cumbersome in my opinion, but this blog post contains some instructions to help you with that.
From what I can see, this offer is valid until the end of October, but I might be wrong so it’s best to take the exams as soon as possible. I also think you’ll also be able to use the same voucher code to re-take the exam should you fail, but again I’m not really sure. Once I have more information, I will update this blog post.
Future additions
In the future a new track VMware Certified Associate – Network Virtualization (VCA-NV) will become available. It is not clear when it will arrive and if you’ll be able to use the voucher on this exam as well, but using the link you can at least have VMware notify you when it becomes available.
Usefulness
I think these free e-learnings are a good way to become familiar on a high level with VMware products, terminology and use cases. The VCA certification is proof you have this knowledge and might give you an advantage.
Being able to certify for free now can come in handy for:
- People that are still studying.
- People that are in between jobs.
- People that are working in other parts of the ICT that are interested in VMware, but cannot get their employer to pay for VMware training/certification.
- People and companies that want to stimulate certification, but also have to save costs.
- People that are interested in virtualization and are considering doing more with it, but don’t know yet if it’s something for them.
There are of course more possible situations, but I think these are very common.

It dont work. Discount validation failed.
Voucher: Voucher – VMRT7B819936 (Instructor Rewards Program – 1113)
This voucher has been used 300 times and cannot be used again.
And the license proviced also on this page is not suitible in the netherlands.. what now

It should be valid in The Netherlands, but I have to admit I used another voucher at another time. Be sure to look if Netherlands, The Netherlands is in the list. From what I remember it was not where I expected it.

Congrats. If you need to do something they’ll inform you about that by mail. For me it took 3-4 weeks before I received them in The Netherlands.

@sybreeder thanks for the reply . i passed VCA-CLOUD on yesterday and i got the mail about the instructions today morning itself . i got same instruction as you said that we have to wait for 30 days since the completion date of exam in my pearson exam report . but , fortunately i got the mail from vmware within 24 hours after completing exam and my transcript has been updated with PDF certificate of VCA-CLOUD . coming to your question , exam is somewhat tough as you said . but you can crack it if you prepare well the cloud fundamentals course . questions are not in the direct way . they will be asked in the practical way like a particular IT situation where you need a vmware product to resolve a problem you face in that situation . be confident and analyse the question very carefully before you answer it . most of the question based on vmware products and types of cloud computing . write the exam after you completed the course only . questions won’t come beyond the course concepts . i am also planning to write VCA-DCV exam soon . how is the exam ? give me some instructions to prepare .

Thanks for info. so i’ll have to watch training videos couple times i think because i don’t have access to cloud based solutions of vmware.I dodn’t got pdf with cert yet unfortunately.In case of VCA_DCV exam was similar to cloud that you passed – question was related to situations when particular solution was needed. Many questions was duplicated.i had time to verify some question on my homelab so it wasn’t that hard.
